Ken McLaughlin
Owner & Operator
I’m a life-long resident of Cook Springs, Alabama. I’m 65 years old and a Christian. I attend New Hope Baptist Church in Eden. I’ve been involved in woodworking in some capacity since the early 1990’s, building cabinetry, furniture, and accessories of various styles and values. I have wanted a sawmill for 25 years and was blessed with that dream coming true last May(2019). Difficulties in finding quality lumber at a reasonable price led to building a dry kiln shortly after starting woodworking. This allowed producing my own lumber from green freshly sawn boards. With the combination of a kiln and now a sawmill, I have the capability that few woodworkers enjoy- I can turn a tree into beautiful furniture or cabinetry! Learn more below!
Abilities
At It Grows on Trees Woodworks, we can saw logs up to 27” wide and 20 ‘ long to very close tolerances. A sawmill is not precision milling, but ours is as accurate as any made. We have a Cook’s Saw Mfg. model AC 36 equipped with hydraulic log handling and a computer controlled saw head.
With our dehumidification kiln, we can dry lumber for use by cabinet shops or furniture builders to ensure the lumber is suitable for use in your home or office. Air dried only lumber will still dry and shrink when installed in a conditioned space, causing possible cracks after finished and in use.
